stripling
   A word in use by the thirteenth century, referring to a slender young man, one passing from boyhood to manhood. The word is not in frequent use, but is found occasionally as a vocative in earlier literature, e.g. ‘pretty stripling’, addressed to the young tapster in Ben Jonson’s Bartholomew Fair.
